A visit to one of these intriguing countries or vacation destinations can fill an entire a vacation itinerary. Furthermore, they require return visits, because there is so much to see. However, some travelers like to expand their visit and go beyond just one country. Here are some suggestions for those travelers.

  1. Take a train from either Beijing to Moscow or Moscow to Beijing with the main stop in Mongolia.
  2. Use Hong Kong as the hub for cruise ship tours and/or flights throughout Asia.
  3. Visit the World Heritage Sites.
  4. Stop in Japan en route to Korea by flying through Tokyo.
  5. Plan a skiing vacation in Japan.
  6. Change planes in Osaka, Japan and fly to the most southern prefecture in Japan, Okinawa and travel on to Guam and Taiwan.
  7. Gaming and golfing vacations can be both exciting and relaxing if the itinerary includes Macao.
  8. When in Australia, do not forget to visit its beautiful southern most region of Tasmania, which draws outdoor adventurers.
  9. While in New Zealand, visit the Islands. Combine a trip to New Zealand with a trip to Australia and the Easter Islands.
  10. Travel by boat from Singapore to the countries in Oceanic Southeast Asia.
  11. Follow the Silk Road of the early overland traders.
  12. Explore the early traditions and paths of Buddha in Tibet and throughout southern Asia and Confucius in China and Vietnam.
  13. While Bali is alluring, leave the beach and visit the islands of Lombok, Borneo, Java, and Sumatra to see different island cultures in Indonesia and Malaysia.
  14. Fly into Shanghai and take the train around the rest of China and continue to Mongolia.
  15. Sample some of the best beaches in Asia and the South Pacific (and the world) and make beach stops in Okinawa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Philippines, and Malaysia to dive, snorkel, or surf.
  16. Visit Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, making Singapore the hub for a plane/boat tour of the Southeastern Asian mainland.
  17. Singapore also is a good travel hub for visits to Sri Lanka and India.
  18. Fly to Bangkok, Thailand and then take buses and trains through Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. This trip would include a rich sampling of the south Asian cultures, religions, music, arts, and history.
  19. With Singapore or Sidney, Australia as hubs, Go Island hopping in Oceana Southeastern Asia by ferry, cruise ship, or sailboat.
  20. Take a trekking trip through the natural preserves and habitats of the different countries and islands.
Remember that most of these alternative trip suggestions require crossing borders. Each country has different travel rules. For example, Singapore has 21-day travel visas while other countries have 60-day visa. Additionally, the countries have varied cultural mores that might change between regions or cities. Therefore, all travel to Asia requires studying and planning before leaving home—and while traveling be cautious.
