 The 2008 Summer Olympics are coming to China! The games will be played from August 8, 2008, to August 24, 2008. The opening ceremonies will commence at 08:08pm and 08 seconds at the Beijing National Stadium, with the closing ceremony taking place in the same arena. Events will take place throughout the country. Hong Kong will be hosting the Equestrian events, while other events such as soccer, sailing, and the new 10km swimming marathon will be held in other cities throughout the country. The first modern Olympics date back to Athens, Greece, in 1896. Since its modern beginnings, many games have been added, as well as many more countries participating. Today, the Olympics are a symbol of the world coming together through sports and competition. The official logo of the 2008 Summer Olympics, titled Dancing Beijing, features the calligraphic symbol, 亰 which stands for capital, representing the host city of Beijing.
